During the month and the quarter ended yesterday there was a substantial increase in' the number of bankruptcies compared with the corresponding periods of last year. During March there were six bankruptcies as against three for March, 1930, and the figures for the two quarters were seventeen this year and niiffe last. The occupations of the seventeen bankrupts cover a wide rajige. They included the following: A solicitor, a blacksmith, a fisherman, two storekeepers, a painter, an hotelkeeper, a coal miner, a florist, a pork butcher and his wife, and a company.
