An excellent method of preventing mould on jam after putting the jam into pots is to let it get cold, and then pour a little vinegar on top. Cover in the usual way. The taste of vinegar cannot be detected when the jam is subsequently eaten. Among the various uses to which lemons can be put is the one by which hands can be kept smooth and white, just rub a piece of lemon lightly over the hands after washing, etc., and you will be delighted -with the result. To restore discoloured brass to its natural brightness rub vigorously with a piece of cut lemon. When furniture has a dull, sticky appearance, wash it with warm water to which vinegar has b.een added in the proportion of a teaspoonful to a pint. Dry well, and then leave for a few days before using furniture cream.
