CHICHESTER HOPS OFF FOR LORD HOWE ISLAND
Airman Discards Boat, Heavy Tools And Articles Of Clothing. (United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received April 1, 11.50 a.m.) NORFOLK ISLAND, April 1. MR CHICHESTER, at 3 p.m. on Tuesday discharged 20 gallons of petrol at Cascade and then took off. After circling the island for half an hour he landed at Emily Bay at the southern end of the island, inside the reef. This morning, after refuelling and discharging his collapsible boat and his heaviest tools, as well as articles of clothing, he made a successful start at 10.3 a.m. He expects to arrive at Lord Howe Island at 5.30 p.m.
The distance from Norfolk Island to Lord Howe Island is 486 miles. Mr Chichester has flown already the 420 miles from Parengarenga to Norfolk Island, and to complete his journey to Sydney must fly another 434 miles.
