About a thousand children attended the special service held in the Anglican Cathedral yesterday afternoon, when the address was given by Archbishop Julius. Many of the children came in school groups. The services will be held daily throughout Holy Week, and on each occasion the Archbishop will preach. “ I would like to suggest that suitable trees be planted in the cemeteries,” said Councillor L. B. Neale at last night’s meeting of the Christchurch City Council. “In the Auckland cemetery there are some real beauty spots.” The suggestion was referred to the Cemeteries Committee for consideration. , “ I wish to say we have two hundred and fifty-two men of the unemployed on reserves to-day,” said Councillor A. I. Fraer, chairman of the Reserves Committee, in moving the adoption of the committee’s report at last night’s meeting of the City Council. The Works Committee reported that during the last week the total number of men engaged under the Unemployment Board’s No. 5 scheme was 787. They were employed as follows: 256 four-day men, 524 three-day men, 177 two-day men. The men were engaged on extensions of works already in hand and the construction of channelling and kerbing in Oxford Terrace between Manchester and Barbadoes Streets.
