Tennis Match. A match between the Little River Maoris and the Woolston Tennis Club was played on the Woolston courts during the week-end, resulting in a win for the home team by 22 sets to 2. The last of the monthly dances held by the Bromley Tennis Club took place in the schoolroom on Saturday evening, in the form of a carnival. During the evening the cups for the most improved players in the teams were presented to Miss W. Dryden and Mr J. Black. A Yankee tournament, held on Saturday afternoon, resulted in wins for Miss W. Dryden and Mr J. Steel. Novelty dances were held during the evening, and resulted: Lucky spot foxtrot, Miss M. Martin and Mr R. Pepper; lucky spot one step, Miss Sleeman and Mr J. Melhuish; lucky spot waltz, Miss K. Powell and Mr W. Purchas; Monte Carlo one-step, Miss Robinson and Mr Douglass; snowball foxtrot, Miss R. Thomas and Mr R. Sutherland. Sutherland’s Orchestra supplied the music, Mr R. H. Beaumont played extras, and Mr F. Egan was M.C. Heathcote Cricket Club. The Heathcote cricket team concluded their final match in the junior B grade competition on Saturday, when they were defeated by St Albans at St Albans Park. Batting first, St Albans compiled 126 runs (Ayers 22, Greenwood 43, Liddell 23). Heathcote replied with 46 (H. Deavoll 22, Rogers 10). In the second innings St Albans scored 152 (Ebert 62, Fox 45, Ayres 10). Heathcote were all out for 130 (Sibley 38, Rogers 27, Young 23). For the winners, Ayres took four wickets for 17 runs, and Fox three for 16. For Heathcote, Deavoll took five for 6 and three for 32, Smith three for 39, and Sandford two for 18. Heathcote Personal. Miss Doris Newton, Heathcote, has returned from a holiday spent at Kaituna. Mr V. W. Colville, head master of the Heathcote School, has received notice of his transfer, on promotion, to the Runanga School, West Coast. Mrs Hay, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs Nixon, Lee Street, Heathcote.

Widening Smith Street. The Town Planning Committee recommended to the City Council at its meeting last evening that the offer of Mr J. Townsend to transfer a strip of land 16i feet in depth for the purpose of widening the west side of Smith Street be given favourable consideration when the estimates were being framed. agreed to accept the sum of 10s a foot for the land, the council to bear survey and legal costs. The land involved lies between Ferry Road and Matlock Street. The report stated that the acquisition of this land would be a decided improvement to the street, particularly in view of the fact that It carried a great deal of traffic to and from Monica Park.
