The president of th? United States Golf Association stated recently that 24,000,000 golf balls were used in the United States last year. Forty years ago 1000 balls would have been ample to meet the demands of the few people then playing the game. Excursion trains to and from Timaru were the only ones run yesterday bv the Railway Department. Over 450 excursionists left Christchurch by the two trains, and 240 Timaru residents made the trip to Christchurch.
