REV L. M’MASTER WILL REMAIN AT ST PETER’S.
A call to the Rev L. M’Master, of St Peter’s Church, from the Alexander parish. Central Otago, -was received by the Christchurch Presbytery at a special meeting to-day.
The congregation of St Peter’s Church wrote asking the Presbytery not to support the call.
Members of the congregation waited on the Presbytery. They said that a congregational meeting had been held, and the general feeling was that it was desirous that Mr M’Master should remain in his present charge. There had been a slight undercurrent in the congregation, said one representative, but this had disappeared, and the feeling was now of the best. It would be unwise for the Presbytery to let Mr M’Master go.
Mr M'Master said that the call had come unexpectedly. The unanimous decision by his people had touched him, and he thought that, in the interests of his congregation, he should remain. It was decided thta the Presbytery decline to sustain the call.
