Lake Brunner Swim.
To the Editor. Dear Sir, —In the West Coast notes of Monday, February 16, the heading, ‘‘ Long Distance Swim Not Successful,” is misleading. The swimmer, Mrs E. Fraser, of Greymouth, set out to cross the lake from Mitchells, and accomplished her objective in the creditable time of 3hr 40min. The swimmer then continued on up the waters of Iveagh Bay, though suffering intensely from the cold, to a point less than half a mile from the neck leading into Cashmere Bay, where the coldness of the water caused her to leave it. In fairness to the swimmer, whom I have known from her childhood, I write these few lines trusting that you will publish them and give honour where honour is due. —I am, etc., SPECTATOR. February 18, 1931.
