Mr Leonard Checkley, of Knowles Street, has returned to Christchurch after a visit to the earthquake area at Napier and Hastings. At a special meeting of the Dunedin Returned Soldiers’ Association last night, Mr O. L. Femes was appointed secretary of the association in succession to Mr J. M. White, who resigned recently. Mr Femes at one time was one of the staff of the Dunedin branch of the National Bank of New Zealand, and until recently was connected with the Wanganui Woollen Company.
