The Value Of Milk.
To the Editor. Dear Sir,—l was much interested to read in a North Island paper recently that an investigation had been carried out by one of the schools as to the food value of fresh raw milk upon children, a certain number of whom had been supplied with one pint of milk daily and an equal number had been supplied with their usual rations, and after a few months it was found that the former had made better progress in thi matter of both height and weight, thus proving the exceptional value of fresh raw milk as a body builder. Now, sir, with a view to encouraging a similar investigation being carried on in our midst, I am prepared to supply one gallon of milk daily to any of our local orphanages free of charge for a similar test. This would mean that eight children of any age would each be supplied with one pint of pure fresh raw milk (guaranteed) and the matron would be expected to select another eight of similar ages as near as possible, the latter to be supplied simply with the usual rations, and then each week or month the weight and height of the whole sixteen to be taken and every week, or month, whilst the test was proceeding. They would, of course, all be weighed at the start and their height measured. Should any of the matrons of our local orphanages care to undertake the examination I shall be pleased to hear from her at the earliest opportunity. The first legitimate acceptance of this offer received will be accepted.—l am, etc., JOE TAYLOR. Proprietor X.L. Dairy. 90, Wirksworth Road, Papanui.
