A Vagrant's Arrest.

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —I was shocked to read in the columns of your valuable paper during this period of “ Peace on earth and goodwill towards all men ” that a poor unfortunate who is up against it, as thousands are unfortunately, at the present time, was handed over to the police because he dared to enter a public domain, go up to a tree, lie down, take off his boots and compose himself for the night, by such a fine Christian body as a Bible class. Now, sir, would it not have been more in keeping with the teachings of the Bible if these Bible class members had provided this poor unfortunate with a meal, a place to sleep for the night better than he had selected, breakfast in the morning, a good wash and a cheery word to start him on his road, perhaps with a higher purpose in the future? I wonder, sir, if the poor wretch would have ended up in gaol if he had called upon the local publican? I will guarantee the local publican could not have done worse for the poor wretch.—l am. etc., PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH
