ROAD BOARD TRANSACTS ITS ROUTINE BUSINESS. At the monthly meeting of the Upper Ashburton Road Board, there were present:—Messrs A. Horsey (chairman), T. J. Lemon, R. Huston and R. J. Mulligan. The Department of Labour wrote regarding the statutory half-holiday in the board’s district. It -was decided to make no alteration to the present holiday, which was Thursday. The clerk reported that the metalling of Timaru Track Road had been completed, and the side road near Chertsey off the main road had been graded and metalled. It was decided to impose the 10 per cent penalty on all rates not paid by February 27. The bank pass-book showed a debit balance of £I3OS Ss sd. Methodist Circuit. At the quarterly meeting of the Methodist Circuit in the Baring Square Sunday School Hall, there were present:—The Rev R. B. Tinsley (in the chair), Sister Mildred, Mrs F. Butterick. Misses A. C. Watson, A. Watson and E. Woodyatt and Messrs F. Frampton and R. Buxton (circuit stewards), J. W. Baker, C. F. Horrill, J. West, W. Jewell, J. Moore, H. Monej', W. J. Brown, W. 11. Higgins, W. C. Bishop, W. H. Robinson, A. C. Hardy, G. Fowke, H. M. Jones, E. Leadley, B. H. Carter and J. Watson. Mr F. Frampton, for the circuit stewards, presented the balance-sheet for the quarter, which showed that, despite the financial stringency, the income had been well maintained. Collections were granted to the Wakanui Trust in connection with their church anniversary, and the Baring Square Trust was granted half the Sundajr collection in connection with the harvest festival. Mr B. 11. Carter submitted a general report on the work of the Sunday school. It showed the school to be in a prosperous and flourishing condition. During the quarter, national certificates had been presented to five of the teachers whose continued service in connection with Sunday school work had ranged from sixty-four to twentysix years. The annual picnic at Tinwald had been a great success, about 300 being present. Messrs F. Frampton and J. Watson were nominated as circuit stewards for the ensuing year. Restrictions on Use of Water. Restrictions were placed on the use of water from the Ashburton borough high-pressure system on Saturday last, and it was reported yesterday that a considerable improvement had taken place. It was expected that there would now be no difficulty in maintaining an ample supply for all requirements.
