COATES—ALLEN. Avonside Holy Trinity Church was the scene of a wedding recently, when Alajorie Eileen, only daughter of Mr and Airs J. E. Allen, Gloucester Street, Linwood, was married to Allan Dalby, third son of Air and Airs Coates. St Albans. The Rev Otho Fitz Gerald offi ciated, and Air Lilly was organist. Escorted by her father, the bride wore a gown of ivory georgette fashioned in a long-fitting bodice, with four flared tiers falling to the ankles. Her tulle veil, beautifully embroidered, was arranged in Juliet fashion over the head, falling to form a train. She carried a beautiful shower bouquet of white flowers. The bride was attended by Aliss Lillian Chesterton and Aliss Alary Coates, sister of the bridegroom, who wore pretty frocks of pale blue and apricot georgette respectively, made alike with long bodices having bolero capes. The fully-flared skirts fell in ankle-length points. Each wore a Bangkok straw hat and carried a bouquet of pink carnations and maidenhair fern. The little flower girl, Natalie Allen, niece of the bride, wore a dainty little frock of pale pink organdie with tight-fitting bodice and frilled from the waist down to the ankles. She also wore a coronet of rose buds and carried a bouquet of pale pink sweet peas. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Air Harold Coates, as best man, and Air Thorn as groomsman. As she was leaving the church the bride was presented with a silver horseshoe by her little niece, Coi leen Allen.
Airs Allen, mother of the bride, and Mrs Coates, mother of the bridegroom, received the guests at a reception held at Dixieland. The former wore an attractive frock of navy blue crepe satin relieved with pink. Her model hat was of navy blue lace straw lined with pink, and she carried a bouquet of red roses. Airs Coates wore a smart navy blue crepe de chine frock and carried a bouquet of pale pink flower 0 . For travelling, the bride chose a smart navy blue crepe satin frock, relieved with lime-coloured georgette, and a hat to match. Brown—M’Laren.
A wedding was celebrated at the Colombo Street Baptist Church on New Year’s Day, when Evelyn, eldest datighter of Air Charles Al’Laren, Christchurch, was married to Alilton James, eldest son of Airs A. 11. Brown and the late Air A. Brown, of Akarca. The Rev J. K. Archer officiated. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a beautiful gown of charmeuse satin made on straight lines, with flared skirt falling to the ground. Her veil of white tulle, which fell to form a long train, was arranged closely to her head with a trail of orange blossom. White roses and Christmas lilies formed her bouquet. On leaving the church, the bride was presented with a satin horseshoe bv her small nephew, Alaster Peter Smith.
The bridesmaids, Aliss Elma M’lntosh, cousin of the bridegroom, and Aliss Eileen Wilson, wore georgette frocks of pink and blue respectively, with ankle-length skirts composed of small frills, and felt hats to match, with wide drooping brims. They carried posies of flowers in pastel shades. Air H. Carter was best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at Dixieland, where Airs Al’Laren received the guests, wearing a dress of navy celanese with a hat to tone, and earning a bouquet of hothouse flowers. Airs Brown, the bridegroom’s mother, wore a gown of black and silver Her bouquet was of flowers to form a contrast with her frock. The bride travelled in a frock of saxe blue celanese and fawn hat trimmed with blue. Rose—Shute. A pretty wedding was celebrated at the Holy Trinity Church, Greymouth, recently, when Lynda, eldest daughter of Air and Mrs S. Shute, of Christchurch, was married to John Edgar, eldest son of Mrs Rose and the late Air F. E. Rose, also of Christchurch. Archdeacon Jermyn officiated. „ The bridegroom was attended by Air Cedric Heinz as best man. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of Air W. Holt, Greymouth, who subsequently gave her away, wore an ankle-length gown of shell pinkgeorgette. A shoulder cape tied in front with a bow was finished with a spray of orange blossom. Her silk embroidered tulle veil, which hung gracefully to the hem of her gown, was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom, from which tiny sprays ol blossom fell over each ear. She carried a sheaf of arum lilies. The bridesmaid, Aliss Sybil Heinz of Greymouth, wore a pretty powder blue floral georgette frock, daintily cked at the waist and with a skirt falling in an uneven hemline. With this was worn a primrose crinoline hat and she carried a shower bouquet of flowers to tone. Later when Air and Irs T left for their honeymoon. the bndr wa° i-icr , -eo.gette frock in shades 'V v *eux ™ se ' a smart celanese coat with a shoulder cape and a vieux rose hat to match.
