LEES VALLEY BRIDGES DISCUSSED BY COUNCIL.

The Ashley County Council met at Loburn on Thursday last; present— Messrs D. R. Hutchison (chairman), Bennett, M’Cracken, Pulley and Wilson. The chairman stated that a step further had been gained at the conference with regard to the Lees Valley bridges. The clerk was instructed to forward to the Progress League a statement of receipts of rates from the valley and the expenditure on the road for some years bade. The chairman also stated that Mr Langbein had . inspected Dobson’s Road as far as the Mount Lawry Hut, and had fully recognised the need of further maintenance throughout, and of constructional work in places, as at the Karetu Hut ford The use of motor implements on the road was approved. The drain through Mr Matthews’s property not having been cleared, the clerk was instructed to give seven days’ notice to make a start, and, in default, to put men on. Complaints, of fence-breaking and careless lighting of fires at camp sites at the larger bridges were reported, and the opinion was expressed that the sites, would have to be closed against picnicking camps during the dry season unless greater care were shown. The 10 per cent addition to rates was ordered to be made on Wednesday. March 18 next .
