RAILWAY NOT DAMAGED BY COAST CLOUDBURST.

No damage was done to the railway line by the cloudburst at Arthur’s Pass and Otira on Saturday; traffic between the West Coast and Canterbury continued without interruption. In regard, to the roads, no report of damage has been received by the Public Works Department at Christchurch. From another source, however, it was reported that minor washouts had occurred in the roa'’s in the vicinity of Otira. Repairs to the affected roads would be carried out by the Public Works Department in the Greymouth district. (A report of the cloudburst appears on Page 5.)
