MAN FELL IN FRONT OF MOWING MACHINE

INJURIES FOLLOWED BY FATAL COMPLICATIONS. Per Press Association. BLENHEIM, January 3. As the result of a harvesting accident which occurred on Mr H. J. Gluyas’s property at Grassmere a fortnight ago, James Smyrl, aged thirty, single, died in the Wairau Hospital. When he was mowing grass the team started to move off, and Smvrl rushed to check them. He was knocked down in the path of the mowing knife, and dragged about eighty yards. A child on the machine had the presence of mind to pull the knife out of gear, but the steel fingers of the guard struck Smyrl on the head and back, fracturing his skull. Acute infective meningitis set in with fatal consequences.
