DON BRADMAN’S FIRST CENTURY

Next Saturday, December 27, the ‘‘Star’ 1 will publish the first instalment of Don Bradman s life story by himself. It relates how he practised cricket shots with a golf ball and a small stump as a child, and how he made his first century when twelve. It also explains why Bradman nowadays throws in the ball with such deadly accuracy. He confesses that this quality is due to his early practice. The articles, of which the “ Star ” has purchased the New Zealand rights, are bright and interesting, well-written and, full of incident. After describing how the champion took up the game, they will give details of Don’s steady rise from country cricket to grade cricket and representative cricket, vivid impressions of his first tests, famous opponents, the trip to England, and his early experiences in London, with a suggestion to the Board of Control for the benefit of future Australian Elevens. Instalments, illustrated, will be published regularly throughout January and February.
