CHRISTMAS PARTIES.
“Puriri” Kindergarten Break-up. The first term “break-up” of the “Puriri” Kindergarten was held on Wednesday afternoon. The hall was gaily decorated with red antirrhinums, yellow’ marigolds, and blue delphiniums. The children gave an enjoyable programme of action songs and a tableau in which the small folk assumed the characters of soldiers, birds and flowers. There was also a little play of a child in bed waiting for Father Christmas to arrive, the wee mother singing. “If You’re Good.” This was very much appreciated by the parents. The manner in which the children performed reflected great credit on their teacher, Miss Ailsa West. Later Father Christmas appeared and presented each child with a toy from the tree. Mr H. S. S. Kyle M.P., spoke on behalf of the parents, congratulating Miss West. Last, but not least, the pupils sat down to their “Party Tea” while the parents and friends partook of afternoon tea. Blackwell Motors. The children’s essay competition conducted by Messrs Blackwell Motors, Ltd., was won by Miss Muriel Hercus. The prize, a “model Chevrolet" car, was presented last night at a Christmas party in Messrs Blackwell Motors’ showroom, to the accompaniment of a real live Santa Claus, Christmas tree, balloons and all manner of gaieties, of which the salesmen’s “orchestra" was a notable feature. There was a large gathering of clients and friends, with a host of little ones, and Mr Black - well himself was master of ceremonies. Fendalton School. The infant department of the Fendalton Open-Air School held a very successful Christmas party. Miss M. Dunn, the infant head mistress, and Santa Claus distributed toys and balloons to the children from a gaily decorated Christmas tree. Songs were contributed by the children, and afternoon tea brought a happy party to a close. Belfast Infant SchooL The Belfast infant school were entertained on .Wednesday at the annual party given by the School Committee. The rooms had been decorated with streamers, balloons, flowers, and the paper hats and bon-bons worn by the children presented a very festive air. The proceedings opened with speeches by the head master, Mr Morgan, and the Revs Wood and Hanby. Little Dawn Hayward, on behalf of the school, presented a bouquet of sweet peas and maidenhair fern to Mrs Spencer, who distributed the prizes and presents. When all the children had
received their books, they repaired to their own rooms to partake of the good things provided by the committee and prepared by the teachers. Visitors included Mr Hawke, M.P, members of the clergy, representatives of the committee, parents, and the head master and staff of the upper school.
