T 3 Y THE END of this week the conscientiously selective shopper will have done most of his or her hard thinking for Christmas. The shortening period to the twenty-fourth means that the fleeting days must be carefully utilized and a little self-denial exercised in the disposal of time over the business of Christmas shopping. A scramble at the end inevitably results in somebody being forgotten, or in giving friends something that will do, instead of something that will bring the greatest pleasure because of its appropriateness. The browsing wise ones are already picking the plums from the novelties in the shops. Therefore, it is not too soon to remember the yearly slogan for this season: Shop early and please your friends.
