Evidence of the acuteness of political feeling in Calcutta is furnished by the action of Dr Urquhart, principal of the Scottish Church College, who has written to the Viceroy and Lady Irwin requesting them to abandon their engagement to attend the forthcoming college centenary celebrations, as information has been received that “an attempt emanating from outside sources may be made to mar the harmony of the proceedings on the occasion of your visit.” Brigands’ Raid. A fifteen-year-old Hindu girl was killed after a plucky stand against armed brigands who raided a moneylender’s shop in a village near Lahore. The attackers were resisted by the villagers, two of whom were shot. The wounded girl hurled bricks at the raiders till she was overpowered and shot dead. ’Planes Deliver Food. Food supplies for 1000 men during the two days in which they were moving from Dargai to Chitral, were dropped from aeroplanes by parachutes. Fourteen ’planes delivered three tons daily, four journeys from the base over difficult mountainous country. Forty-eight of the fifty-six parachute loads were delivered safely on the first day, and every load but two on the second day. AFRIDIS ATTACK BRITISH TROOPS.
