LONDON PLEASED WITH APPOINTMENT.

NEW AUSTRALIAN GOVERNOR-GENERAL. (United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received December 8, 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, December 7. City comment on Sir Isaac Isaacs as Governor-General of Australia thus far has been confined to expressions of relief that a man of such extreme ability and unquestioned impartiality should be selected. Share quotations are unaffected. Some brokers believe that the appointment tends to counteract rather than otherwise the depressing effect of the publication of the reduced Australian revenue returns. The “Economist,” referring to Press apprehension that the Governorship will become a reward for political services, points out that future GovernorsGeneral may be drawn not only from Australians, but also from distinguished persons throughout the Empire. The “Economist” does not doubt that future Premiers’ selections will be guided by the success or failure of the present experiment.

SIR ISAAC ISAACS MAY BE RAISED TO PEERAGE.

(Received December S. 9.20 a.m.) LONDON, December 7. The “Sunday News” understands that there is a strong possibility that Sir Isaac Isaacs will be raised to the Peerage.
