GRAND CARNIVAL FOR ST LUKE’S.

LARGE ATTENDANCE AT ART GALLERY TO-DAY. The grand carnival arranged by the parishioners of St Luke’s Church was opened in the Art Gallery this afternoon by the Hon Sir Heaton Rhodes, M.L.C. The many stalls were tastefully decorated, and during the afternoon good business was done. The plentiful and attractive stocks of articles of all kinds offered to the public were an indication of the hard work that has been put in during the past few days by the stall holders and others who have helped to prepare for the carnival. The Entertainment Committee has been responsible for arranging a bright programme to add to the attractions. A display of folk dancing, under Miss Fleming, 8.A., and an interesting exhibition of fencing by the Swords Club, in addition to instrumental and vocal music, added to the pleasure of the crowd of visitors to the Art Gallery this afternoon.
