GOLF.

CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. The Anderson Cup foursome competition was played at Shirley on Saturday and was won by L. Hansen and P. C. Harris. The scores were:—

RUSSLEY CLUB. On Saturday a medal handicap was played at the Russley links, which drew a field of twenty players and resulted in a win for Lindsay Russell, 93—22—71. The was Cyril Sead-Gowing, AVONDALE CLUB. The end of the season tourney at the Avondale Club was played during the week-end in fine weather. There was a large muster of members and friends. The mixed foursome bogey handicap was won by T. W. Patterson and Miss C. Penn, four down. The runners-up were A Rorgfeldt and Miss E. Thornton, five down. The ten-hole stroke handicap was won by R. J. Masters who returned a fine card of 40—5—35. The runners-up were V. Smith, 40—7—39. and Miss Myra Johnston 55—19—39. The putting competition was won by K. C. \Vard and Miss E. L,. Sapsford, the latter after a play-off with Miss V. Penn. The winners in the driving competition were: Men s senior, O. Anderson, 242vds; mcn’s i junior, L S. Smith. 160yds;, laches senior. Miss E. L. Sapsford, ladies Junior, Miss C. Penn, 168yds. Before the presentation of prizes the club president, Mr James Carter, congratulated members on the improved course and bunkering system, following the adoption of Mr Redhead’s programme of course constructional improvements. He thanked those who had made the improvements possible by taking up the debenture issue, and expressed appreciation of the action of the majority of members, who despite inconvenience while the alterations were in progress loyally supported their com-

inittee, and who had refrained from going over to the non-playing roll. The club captain, Mr Harold Lighthand, welcomed the many visitors from other clubs, and mentioned that while , the ladies’ roll, except for mid-week players, was practically full, there waa urn pit) room for more men members. Mrs J. Carter then presented the trophies won during the season. Following are the winners of the principal events:— Club Championship: Men, K. C. Ward; ladies. Mrs J. M. Preston.
