CAR WRECKED ON DYER’S PASS ROAD.

Two men, a woman and two children had a miraculous escape on Dyer’s Pass Road yesterday, about a third of the way down on the Lyttelton side. For some unexplained reason the car in which they were driving got out of control, and, travelling at a good speed, dashed into the bank. It turned almost a complete somersault, and ended lying on its off-side. Passers-by helped to get the passengers out through the torn hood, and were amazerd that none of them was hurt.

An infant who was lying under the hood only had a scratched hand. All got a terrible shock. The front of the car was wrecked, the wind-screen was smashed to bits, the body on the offside corner was crushed, and the off rear wheel was smashed right off the hub, not a Speke being left. Helpers dragged the car clear of the road, which is narrow at the spot, and passing cars gave the occupants a lift. There are several very narrow stretches on this road, and motorists consider it would be money well spent if some of the unemployed were put on to widen it, especially at the corners.
