HISTORIC PLATE. Lord and Lady Bledisloe were greatly interested in the silver communion cup and plate at Holy Trinity Church, Lyttelton, on the occasion of their visit to the church yesterday. The cup and plate were greatly admired by their Excellencies, not so much for their beauty as for the fact that they were brought to Lyttelton by the Canterbury pilgrims in the first four ships. Cadet Horsley’s Funeral. The funeral took place at the Bromley Cemetery yesterday afternoon of Albert Horsley, a cadet on the Canadian Constructor, who was killed at the Christchurch Railway Station on Friday evening. Cadet Horsley, was given a seaman’s funeral. The pall-bearers were Mr T. Martin, delegate to the Seamen’s Union at Lyttelton, and three other seamen. Captain P. D. Robuck represented the Seamen’s Institute, and Mr M. P. Caffin, manager of the Canadian Steamship Company, was also present. Wreaths were sent by the Navy League, officers and crew of the Canadian Constructor, watersiders and railway staff, Canadian National Steamship Company and the Tally Clerks’ Union. An Unexpected Call. While proceeding along the road after visiting St Joseph's Convent at Lyttelton yesterday morning, the GovernorGeneral’s attention was drawn by the Mayor (Mr W. T. Foster) towards an old resident, Mrs W. Roder, who is ninety years of age. Lord and Lady Bledisloe diverted their steps, walked up to the old lady, and congratulated her on her age. Her Excellency commented on the old lady’s cheerfulness, to which she replied: ‘‘What’s the use of being otherwise.” Roder expressed delight at the unexpected call. Rose Show and Sale of Work. The annual rose show and sale of work in connection with St John’s Presbyterian Church will be held in the Drill Hall on Thursday and Friday afternoons and evenings. An addition to the schedule provides for entries for marigolds and violas.
