HOCKEY GIRLS MEET KING AND QUEEN.
AN UNEXPECTED THRILL FOR YOUNG AUSTRALIANS (United Press Assn.— -By Electrio Telegraph.—Copyright.) (Received November 25, 11.5 a.m.) LONDON, November 24. “Who are they?” the King asked the Queen when driving through the gateway of Buckingham Palace to-da\' on returning from Sandringham, the> r saw eighteen strapping girls lined up and curtseying. The King learnt from the Lord-in-Waiting that the girls were members of the Australian hocke3' team, and asked for them to be presented. The girls -were most excited at the unexpected honour, and filed into the drawing-room, where Mrs Davy, manager of the team, was first presented to their Majesties. She then presented Miss Wick, captain, and all the seventeen members, with whom iheir Majesties shook hands and chatted. “It was a most marvellous adventure,” said Mrs Davy afterwards. “Their Majesties asked whether we had enjoyed the tour. I replied that the whole tour was most delightful, and we had not had a worrying moment. The girls said the same, but meeting the King and Queen was the greatest thrill.” The hockey pla> r ers leave for Amsterdam on November 27, and after playing in Holland, Germany and Belgium, depart for Australia by the from Marseilles on December 17.
