WEAK CLUBS ARE TO BE ASSISTED.

SWIMMING.

REVIVING INTEREST IN CITY SWIMMING CLUBS.

A big effort is to be made by the Canterbury Swimming Centre to revive swimming among the weaker clubs and those not yet affiliated to the centre. This decision was reached at the meeting last evening Mr S. Hollander, the president, said that he had been m touch with some of the weaker clubs and clubs not affiliated to the centre and had found a consensus of opinion among them that the centre was not doing enough tor them. He wanted with the assistance of the centre, to formulate a scheme to help those clubs and put them on a footing for the betterment i of swimming in Canterbury generally. As a centre it was their duty to do something to strengthen the clubs He himself had already met Addington. His suggestion was that in March the centre might meet the com mittees and run a carnival in those districts That would be something concrete before them. There were several clubs such as Wharenui, Somerfield. Addington Waltham and Richmond where good work could be done

Mr S. C Anderson said the idea was a good one and the Linwood Club would certainly co-operate. Mr C. W. Smith said that some of the championship event? that the clubs had not applied for might be run off at the carnivals suggested. The chairman said that if from their efforts, even two more clubs affiliated the work would have been worth while. He aslced for a motion on the lines suggested.

This was moved by Mr T. H. Ilarker, seconded by Mr A. L. Taylor and carried. The secretary, Mr V. G. Spiller, was instructed to write to the secretaries of the clubs concerned asking for their co-operation.
