KEEPING DOWN COSTS.

A policy of keeping down costs was pursued by Mr D. Jackson, J.P., in the Magistrate’s Court this morning. The Riccarton Borough Council brought a number of traffic prosecutions, several being of the same nature. When Mr Champion, appearing for the council, asked for * solicitor’s fee when the first conviction was entered, Mr Jackson asked, ‘‘How many of these cases have you got? You’re not going to get solicitor’s fees on them all.” At a later stage, when a man was fined for cycling on the footpath, Mr Champion said that he did not ask for solicitor’s fee. “It’s all right,” was the reply, “you would not have got it.” JEEUES3 Um@3 m ESI3 UHi@l!®® IS 1! ®
