The need for a good grounding before leaving the Technical School \vas emphasised by the Principal, Mr R. J. Thompson, yesterday when referring to the number of students who, as was usual at this time of the year, were leaving to take up positions. Some of them who had been attending the school for a considerable time were well equipped to enter into the life of commerce and trade, but unfortunately a few, being over-anxious to get work, were leaving school before they had a proper grounding. This, he stated, was certain to act detrimentally on their future careers. The tendency 1 was growing to insist on all apprentices having a good general education, and it was advisable that this be received before the student left the day school. Ashburton Golf Club.
