August 20 Charged in the Magistrate’s four* this morning with speeding in Manukau Road, Alfred James Taylor offered a novel excuse for his breach of the regulations. Defendant said he was employed by a city firm, and, while motoring leisurely along Manukau Road, he suddenly saw a car in front of him driven by a man who owed his firm a sum cf money. “T speeded up and gave chase,” said Taylor. He was still chasing the man when he passed through a traffic trap “And were you successful in getting your outstanding account?” asked the Magistrate, Mr W. R. M’Kean, S M. Taylor regretted that he had been unable to get the money. The Magistrate: I also regret that I will have to add to your financial difficulties bv imposing a fin- of f.Os and costs.
