HEART FAILURE CAUSED MAN'S DEATH IN STREET.

A verdict of death from heart failure was returned by the Coroner /Mr H. P. LawrjT at an inquest held this morning into the death of Sidney Gerald Smith, who died suddenly in Wellington Street on August 1. Sergeant Hodgins represented the police. Una Amelia Cookson, residing at 38, Wellington Street, Linwood, said that Smith was an accountant- and resided at 73, Thackeray Street, Sydenham. On August 1 witness had occasion to go out at 7.30 p.m., and saw a man, later found to be Smith, on the footpath opposite her home. He seemed to be lying over his bicycle. She did not know that he was dead, until the constable came. Dr E. F. Thomson, pathologist at the Christchurch Hospital, stated that the cause of death was heart failure, following acute bronchitis. The heart failure was brought on by the exertion of riding his bicycle. The Coroner then returned his verdict.
