CANTERBURY RED CROSS SOCIETY MEET.
The Executive and Finance Committee of the Canterbury Branch of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St John met on Friday; present: Air C. I. Ronaidson (chairman), Mrs 11. 11. Smith, Miss Guthrie and Mr Cyrus Williams. Financial statements showed that during the month of July, 1930, ISS exservice patients had received attention at the Upper Sanatorium, Cashmere Hills: at Queen Alary Hospital, rianrner Springs: at the Rannerdale Home: at the Coronation Hospital: at the Sunnyside Mental Hospital; at the Christchurch Hospital and as outpatients; and that the expenditure on clothing, tobacco, hospital requisites, extra food, motor hire, amusements and including grants to the various matrons for miscellaneous purchases had totalled £l4O 11s 7d. Expenditure on Red Cross Club work (which provided moving pictures, furnishings, cards, newspapers, books, magazines and other amusements) had totalled £53 14s lid. Accounts were passed for payment as follows:—Depot £42 10s 4d, general £6S 9s 2d. Major Barnes reported that during July he had distributed the usual supplies to ex-service patients in the Sunnyside Alental Hospital. The Depot reported that the matter of issuing sweets or biscuits in lieu of tobacco to certain men in the Hokitika Mental Hospital had been attended to. Sister Christian’s report on peace time work for July stated that lectures on health and home-nursing were being given at Sheffield, Annat, Greendale. Springfield and Kowai Bush; and the classes had been well attended. Approximately 100 people were receiving instruction, and over 100 miles were being covered weekly travelling to and from classes.
