Following the refusal of the Customs Department to permit the entry of Soviet pulp wood on the grounds that convict labour was employed in its transport, which is contrary to the spirit of the American Tariff Act, the Treasury Department lias announced that it is investigating the production methods of lumber, coal, manganese, and other Russian products, which will be barred if convict labour, or forced labour, is employed in their production.
