LABOURS NOMINEE FOR RICCARTON SEAT.

Consequent upon the death of Mr F. R. Cooke, who was one of the candidates for the Labour nomination for the Riccarton seat at the next general election, the North Canterbury Labour Representation Committee has decided to hold a fresh selection ballot, and nominations are now being invited. Mr Cooke received the largest number of votes in the previous ballot, which closed j.ust prior to his death. There were about four candidates and Voting was on the preferential system, but instead of transferring the votes recorded for Mr Cooke to the other candidates, according to the second preferences, it has been decided to hold a fresh ballot.
