MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
CHRISTCHURCH. (Before Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M.) Convicted of Theft. William Michael Th,om (Mr Amodeo), charged with the theft of a pair of boots valued at 19s, the property of Henry Cooper Smth, pleaded guilty. He was convicted and fined £l, in default seven days’ imprisonment. Civil Case. (Before Mr 11. A. Yoting, S.M. James Burgess, garage proprietor, of Dunsandel (Mr J. D. Godfre}'), claimed £l7 from William Gordon Dixon, foreman butcher, of Hilton Street, Kaiapoi (Mr Twyneham), as damages through a collision caused by defendant’s allegedly negligent driving of a motor-car at the intersection of Riccar ton Road and Hanson’s Lane on October 29, 1929. Defendant counterclaimed for £l7 Is 8d as repairs to his car, declaring that plaintiff had driven unskilfully and at an unreasonable speed, and had not sounded a horn. _ Evidence was given that the plaintiff was driving along Riccarton Road towards Dunsandel, when defendant’s car emerged from the lane. The impact caused both machines to slew round towards the south. Judgment was given for Burgess on the claim with costs, and for Burgess on the counter-claim without costs.
