ELECTRIC POWER BOARD MEETS AT LITTLE RIVER.
The Banks Peninsula Electric Power Hoard met at Little River; jiresent— Messrs J. R. Thacker (chairman), R. O. Bradley, J. V. Chapman, A. M. Helps and Geo. Armstrong". The engineer reported that considerable trouble had been experienced during the month, the switch at Stoddart's sions. The trouble occurred in each case shortly after rain had commenced to fall in the Little River district. Approximately 1000 insulators in the Barry's Bay to Price’s Valley section had been examined, and of these nine were removed as showing- signs of cracking in the top shell. Where the line approached a road a number of insulators were found to have a considerable accumulation of dust under the shells. One interruption had been caused by an opossum climbing a steel pole and coming in contact with a conductor. The time had arrived when it was essential for th*e board to procure the necessary materials for testing insulators and replacing defective insulators and poles while the wires were alive. By the use of this apparatus it would be possible to eliminate almost entirely interruptions due to defective insulators on high tension lines. On the motion of Mr Armstrong, seconded by Mr Bradley, the engineer was instructed to secure the necessary eejuipment. It was resolved to take up the agency for an all-electric wireless set and the terms submitted by a wireless firm Were approved. An estimate was presented showing the cost of extending the board's lines to Kaik near Akaroa. The estimated cost was £693, and a guarantee of £lO4 per annum would be required. The line would serve two consumers. passed for payment.
