A total number of 1582 names is contained in the supplementary roll now being prepared for the by-elec-tion to fill the vacancy on the City Council caused by the death of Councillor F. R. Cooke. The roll was closed yesterday, but not a great number of applications for enrolment were made. This is due to the fact that a by-elec-tion was held on April 1 last, when a great majority of these eligible to vote were enrolled. About 1200 of the names on the roll have been added as the result of changes in the ownership of properties. The supplementary roll printed for the by-election held on April 1 last contained 2820 names. A big game hunter came across an African native wearing a familiar looking shirt.
