MEETING OF PLUNKET SOCIETY HELD.

At the monthly meeting of the committee of the Royal New Zealand Society for the Health of Women and Children (the Plunket Society) there ■were present: Mesdames J. Cracroft Wilson (in the chair), E. Harris, A. F. Wright, A. Bunz, J. S. Neville, E. Boulton, E. Cordner, G. Aitken, W. J. Sheat, J. M’Pherson, R. Barnett, E Garland, J. Tait, L. Banks, R. M. Morten, H. D. Acland, Algar Williams, E. Wanklyn, F. Wilding. C, Chilton, K. Ballantyne, Hallows Wood, A. R. Bloxam, J. K. Archer, A. W. Beaven, O. Rennie, A. M’Killop, P. Thomson. M. H. Godby and Cyril Wood. Apologies were received from Mesdames C. M. Ollivier, H. M’lntosh, L. Wilson, H. J. Ballin, F Graham and Miss Ward.

The president and secretary reported attending a meeting in Dunsandel to form a sub-branch. Mrs W. J. Sheat had been elected president, Mrs J. M’Pherson honorary secretary, and Mrs R. Barnett honorary treasurer. The annual meeting was arranged for July 4. It was reported that the Mayor would preside, Dr G. M. L.‘ Lester would address the meeting on “The Plunket Society in Relation to Preventive Medicine,” and Dr Renfrew White, F.R.C.S., of Dunedin, would speak on “The Pre-School Child.” The following sub-committee was set up to take charge of the arrangements ; Mesdames E. Cordner, A. Bloxam, A. M’Killop, F. Wilding and G. Aitken An Austin motor-car had been purchased for the use of the nurse in charge of the country districts, and donations towards the cost had been received from Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson, Messrs D. Crozier, Ltd., and the Lin-coln-Tai Tapu branch of the society. Other sub-branches had signified their intention to make donations.

Stalls for Violet Day were allotted as follows:—Cakes, Mrs E. Boulton, Mrs Chilton and the Riccarton subbranch, assisted by Mesdames H. J. Ballin, G. M. Lester, J. S. Neville and A. Bunz: produce and delicatessence, Mrs L. Banks and the Shirley-Rich-mond sub-branch, Mrs J. Tait and the Opawa sub-branch, assisted by Mesdames F. Graham and A. M’Killop; flowers and plants, Mrs A. P. Wright and the Sydenham-Cashmere subbranch ; decorated baskets for shop windows, Mesdames Roy Mathews. A. Bloxam and K. Ballantyne: work and variety, Mrs L. Wilson and the Papanui sub-branch, Mrs Garland and the Woolston sub-branch; books, Mesdames E. Wanklyn, F. Wilding, H. T. J. Thacker and Dickenson; balloons, Mesdames W. H. Cowper, Irving Carney and Hallows Wood. The depot at the Jockey Club Rooms was placed in the charge of Mrs C. M. Ollivier and helpers, and the transport in the charge of Mesdames E. Cordner and G.’ Aitken. The organisation was left in the hands of Mesdames E. Boulton and C. Chilton. It was reported that a skating carnival organised by Mrs N. Chamberlain and Miss Matheson had resulted in the sum of £25 10s being added to the Violet Day funds. For the Central Office, Nurse Allan reported 111 new cases, while 614 visits had been paid by the nurses to homes. Visits to the various rooms were as follows: Adults Babies Pre-

At the Ante-natal Clinic, Nurse Summers had seen 31 new cases; 116 return visits were paid, and 27 casual interviews given, while 104 cases were under supervision. . For the .country districts, Nurse Horne reported as follows:

For the Karitane Baby Hospital the matron reported 13 babies admitted, 12 discharged and 17 in hospital. Five mothers were admitted to the mothers’ cottage, four were discharged and four were in residence. Premature babies continued to claim a fair share of the hospital accommodation. During May six had been admitted, amongst whom, were twins and the surviving member of triplets. A gift of half a ton of potatoes had been received from Mr W. Menzies, of Tai Tapu, and donations* and subscriptions had been received during the month from the following:—Mesdames J. Barry, A. G. Davidson, C. W. Houston, P. A. Kortegast, W.'iK. C. Halley, P. D. M'Nabb, R. T. Richards, I s . N. Taylor.
