BAZAAR HELD FOR NORTH CHINA MISSION.
YQsterday, at St John’s Schoolroom, Latimer Square, the combined Church of England parishes held a sale of work to aid the North China Mission.
The Rev C. W. I. Maclaverty, chairman of the North China Committee, and New Zealand Commissary to the Bishop of North China, thanked the members of the parishes and all those who had worked so willingly to make the bazaar a success. At the end of last year the mission in New Zealand was in debt to China to the extent of £236, but already one-half of that amount had been extinguished. He then introduced Mrs J. Cracroft Wilson, who, after giving a short address on the work of the missionaries in China,’ opened the bazaar. Those in charge of the stalls were:— Chinese goods (Cathedral), conveners, Mrs A. Julius and Miss Hey wood; cakes (St Augustine’s, Cashmere), conveners, Mrs A. H. Norris, Mrs H. A. Young; home dainties (St Luke’s Missionary Association), convener, Mrs B. F. Jenkins; flower stall (West Lyttelton), Mrs Maclaverty and Mrs G. Ronalds; sweets (St John’s Young Women’s Guild), Mrs J. F. Coursey; produce (Lincoln and Phillipstown parishes), conveners, Mrs A. Acheson and Mis Arnold Pearce: afternoon tea (Fendal ton), Mrs F. B. Redgrave, Mrs S. L. Partridge and Mrs Percy Beckett. The sale was continued last evening, when Miss Mulvany Gray and her pupils and Miss Millicent Jennings contributed several items.
