CANTERBURY BRANCH OF RED CROSS. SOCIETY- MEET
The monthly meeting of the Executive and Finance Committee of the Canterbury Branch of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St John was held at Christchurch on Friday. There were present—Mr C. J. Ronaldson (chairman), Mrs H. H. Smith, Miss Guthrie, Messrs J. W. Baty, H. L. Bowker, W. E. D. Bishop and Cyrus Williams. The chairman referred to the death of Mrs Alex Boyle, who had been a prominent Red Cross worker from the early days of the war, having been in charge of the Canterbury Red Cross Depot until peace was declared. On his motion a vote of condolence with the family was passed, members expressing their sympathy in the usual manner. It w r as resolved that Miss Guthrie be a member of the committee during Lady Wigram’s absence in England.
The expenditure on clothing, tobacco, hospital requisites, extra food, motor hire, amusements and including grants to the various matrons foi miscellaneous purchases, had totalled £123 2s. In addition to expenditure on Red Cross Club work, which provided moving pictures, furnishings, cards, newspapers, books, magazines and other amusements, had totalled £43 11s 2d. Accounts were passed for payment as follows: Depot £l6o 3s 9d, general £27 2s lid. It was decided that repairs and renovations to the billiards table at Rannerdale be effected at a cost of £9 10s.
