ALL SAINTS’ CHURCH. The Anzar Day organ recital at All Saints’ Church was given this by Dr T. L. Crooke, of Christchurch. It was not the first occasion on which he had given a recital, and his usual finished style of playing was greatly enjoyed. The offerings were for the organ tuning fund. LIFEBOAT INSTITUTE. The members of the Sumner Lifeboat Institute have nearly completed their voluntary work at Boat Harbour. The skidway is so nearly completed that, with the winch now available for haulage, it is expected to give Rescue 11. a trial at an early date. SUMNER TEMPLARS. Last week’s meeting was held on Thursday, when Brother C. Ford was

acting C.T. Visitors included Brother and Sister \Y atson, Brother Somerfield Nelson; Brother Watson, DeputyMayor; Sister Cameron, Dunedin; Brother Chapman, Wellington; and Brother Thomas, Christchurch, and brothers and sisters from the Redcliffs Temple. The delegates were given an official welcome. Sister Cameron gave two medals for membership competition. The superintendent moved a vote of congratulation to Grand Chief Templar, Brother T. H. Dalton, on being again elected. Sister Rutherford moved a vote of congratulation to Brother Rennie. The visitors responded to the welcome. Greetings •were received from lodges and Temples in Nelson, Wellington and Dunedin. The S.G.W., Brother Ford, expressed thanks to all attending the church parade and the concert in connection with Grand Lodge conference. The programme was Priest of Paris and surprise packets, which latter was won by L. Clark. At the usual meeting of Sumner Pride, Sister B. Sexton, C.T., presided. Visitors included Brother A. Rennie, who was officially received as G.S.J.W. and congratulated; S.ister M. Teague, D.S.JAV., and Sister M. Teague, sen., who was also congratulated upon gaining the office of G.D.M. Brother Ren- , nie informed members of the medals | and the shield for membership campaign, and asked all to do their duty by bringing members who would stick to the temple. Sister H. Ford then presented him with an Easter Egg. Sister M. Teague gave a verbal report as G.L. representative for the temple, and was thanked for the same. Sister Mrs Teague also spoke. The election of officers resulted as follows;—Chief Templar, Sister B. Sexton ; Vice-Templar, Brother C. Ford; secretary. Sister D. Rutherford; assistant secretary. Sister T. Parsons; F.S. Brother B. Stunts; tyler, Brother J.

Dalziel; chaplain, Brother L. Clark; marshal, Brother G. Dalziel; D.M., Brother T. Turland; G.D., Brother J. Clark; sentinel, Sister D. Rowe; P.C.T., Sister E. Wykes; pianist, Sister A. Rowe. The G.S.J.W. then handed the commission to Brother Ford, S.J.W., and Brother Baxter, A.S.J.W., and installed the officers for the D.S.J.W., as next week would be anniversary and parents’ night. LIFE SAVING. The Sumner Life Saving Club for some time has contemplated securing a surf boat similar to that used on Australian beaches in accidents to bathers. It si understood that an offer from the North Island is being considered. The purchase; of such a boat should prove of the greatest value in the type of easy running surf usually experienced on this beach. PaTGBY FOOTBALL. The Sumner Rugby Football Club opened its play in the competitions last Saturday by defeating Sydenham at St Leonard’s Square by 14 points to 6 in the President’s second grade Tries were secured by Browne and Kerr, and Boyce kicked two penalties. The junior under seventeen team was defeated by 6 points to 0. RIFLE SHOOTING. The usual shoot of the Sumner-Red-cliffs Ladies’ Miniature Rifle Club was held on Wednesday, when the scores were as follows. Miss C. Corser, 66. Miss M. Whitfield, 65; Miss C. Bamford, 64; Miss E. Whitfield, 64, 68; Miss P. Vaughan, 64, 68; Miss F. Allen, 61, 67, Mrs G. Gerrard, 62. ROADS AND TRAFFIC. Repairs are being carried out on a section of Nayland Street West that has been very bumpy over a long period. Most sections of the main road are now' in good order. A wffiite porcelain traffic dome has now been placed at the intersection of Wakefield Avenue and Nayland Street. 4 his is the first in the borouvb. Last Sunday quite a number of motorists “cut” this corner, which is in front of the Post Office. The offence has been overlooked lor the time being, but it is the council's intention to prosecute for breaches of this regulation of vehicular traffic. SOCCER FOOTBALL. The Association football team defeated at New' Brighton last Saturday by 1 to 0. The committee was. j however, quite satisfied by the per-! formance. The new centre half, H, Jackson, gave a good exhibition of tactics. E. G. Allen played his usual! sound game, and Peterson fully maintained the promise he gave last season. The club commences its second series of euchre parties at Dryden Street next week. REDCLIFFS 1.0.G.T. JUVENILES. The usual meeting of the “Ever Onward Temple” was held on Tuesdav at Redcliffs, Sister J. Darling presiding I

An invitation from the Phillipstown Tent 1.0. R., to be present at its meeting on May 10, was accepted with thanks. Votes of thanks were passed to Miss Grether for the use of her gramophone and to Mrs Grether and helpers who assisted with refreshments. The quarterly election resulted as follow’s: C.T., Brother J. Graham; V.T., Sister L. Jamieson; secretary, Sister M. Houghton; Chaplain, Sister Joan Sutton; Financial Secretary, Sister E. Heaton; Treasurer, Brother H. Kempthorne; Marshal, Brother D. Houghton; Guard, Brother R. Hurrell; Sentinel, Brother J. Lawson; P.C.T., Sister J. Darling; Assistant Secretary, Sister E. Fox; Deputy-Marshal, Brother G. Johnson; Pianist, Sister M. Cooper. The installation of officers will take place next Tuesday. HOUSEHOLDERS’ MEETING AT REDCLIFFS. The annual meeting of the household ers of Redcliffs was held in the school room. Mr H. W. Harris was elected to the chair. Mr F. W. Oldridge presented the committee’s report, which dealt with the school ground improvements, dental clinic, the good work of the staff, and the happy co-operation existing between them and the com mittee. The election of the new committee resulted in twelve nominations, the seven elected being Mesdames W. 11 Harris and A. Holden, and Messrs L. E. Beavis, J. Reed, A. E. Walters, J. F Wing and D. F. Oldridge. Votes of thanks were passed to the head master and staff, also to the out-going commit tee by the most enthusiastic meeting held for many years. At the close of the meeting. Mr D. F. Oldridge was re-elected chairman, and Mr J. F. Wing, secretary and treasREDCLIFFS HOCKEY. The school hockey at Redcliffs has developed, and that part of the borough now rejoices in the possession of two of the keenest clubs (ladies’ and men’s) in Canterbury. Last week the bo3*s’ senior team won by o to 1; the junior boys by 7 to 0, and the third grade made it even with their opponents with 2-2. This year the Ladies’ Hockey Club has increased its membership by over 100 per cent. Last year, the club's first, when the majority of its members were beginners, it registered a fine performance by reaching third place equal in the competitions.
