VICE-REGAL PARTY WENT TO WRONG DOOR

EXPLANATION MADE ON DUNEDIN INCIDENT. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 15. Press reference to the closed door incident at the Dunedin Town Hall has been brought under the notice of the Governor General. The action of the Vice-Regal party in approaching the wrong door involved, in their Excellencies’ view, no lack of attention on the part of the civic authorities, as it was not customary for the Mayor to accompany the GovernorGeneral during the inspection of a guard of honour. The direction subsequently taken was a diversion from ordinary proceedings which caused no inconvenience to their Excellencies, although possibly involving some concern to the civic authorities. Their Excellencies would be sorry if such an incident should detract in any way from the happy impressions of the splendid welcoihe accorded by the citizens of Dunedin.
