CALLOUS FRAUD, DECLARES JUDGE.
OLD MAN HAS LOST HIS LIFE’S SAVINGS. Ter Press Association. DUNEDIN, April 15. John James Arthur, a married man with eleven children, was sentenced to three years’ hard labour on charges of false pretences involving £2OOO, which he obtained from an old fellowemployee, allegedly to invest in mortgage. The Judge said that he found it difficult to imagine a more callous fraud than this practised on an old man for a sum doubtless representing a life's savings.
