COUNCIL GIVES SITE FOR SWIMMING BATH.
The project for a new swimming bath at St Albans has received assistance from the City Council in the shape of the granting of the Edgeware Road yard as a site. The council decided last evening that a recommendation from the Works Committee that the council set aside the site be adopted. The Works Committee reported as follows: “At a recent meeting of the committee, a deputation representing the St Albans Bath Committee attended and requested that the council set aside the southern half of the Edgeware Road yard as a site for the proposed new bath in St Albans. The Edgeware Road yard was purchased in 1922 at a coct of £955, and it has an area of just over an acre. At present a portion of it is used for the storage of metal, etc. The Public Bath Committee propose raising funds by public subscription to cover the cost of constructing the baths, which, when completed, will be handed over to the council.”
