COLOURFUL FILM, “RIO RITA,” AT THEATRE ROYAL

The screen version of “Rio Rita”, the famous musical comedy, has entered on the second week of its season at the Theatre Royal. As a spectacle,, the picture is one of the finest that has been shown in Christchurch. The singing and dancing leave nothing to he desired, and the story gives plentv of scope to the brilliant cast. The ‘name part is taken by Beb* Daniels, who reaches the highest point of her career in the character. She has the double attraction of a great stage ability, and a charming voice, and uses both to produce a characterisation which is magnificent. The male lead is taken by John Boles, who is the possessor of one of the finest voices yet heard from the screen. He is also an act Or of great ability. A host of others contribute with their acting and singing to the success of the show. The ballets and settings are wonderful, and are set off to their fullest advantage by the technicolour scenes which are included W'here there is scope for them. The technicolour scenes occupy the whole of the second half of the programme, and are a just setting for the splendid features that are included. A singing short is the supporting item to a splendid picture.
