PERSONAL.

Mr J. Priestly (Cambridge) is staying at Warner’s Hotel. Mr Justice Adams arrived in Christchurch to-day from the West Coast. Miss Fay Taylour left Christchurch for Dunedin this morning. The Town Clerk (Mr J. S. Neville) returned on Saturday from the Municipal Conference at Invercargill.

Mr H. R. T. Spanjer leaves to-day on a trip to Australia. He will be absent for about a month. Members of the Australian tennis team left last evening for Dunedin, where they will play a match against a South Island team.

Messrs 11. G. Livingstone and C-. P. Agar have been appointed Canterbury delegates on the New Zealand Executive of the Reform Party.

The Leader of the Opposition (the Right Hon J. G. Coates) left by last night’s express for Gore. From there he will proceed to Invercargill, Dunedin and Oamaru, returning north at the end of the week.

Mr K. M. Milligan, managing director of Messrs Farquharson Brothers (Australia), Ltd., who has just completed an extensive tour of the South Island, left for Wellington on Saturday evening.

Messrs 11. Holland, M.P., C. 11. Clibborn and P. R. Climie (representing the Canterbury Progress League) left for Nelson to-day for the purpose of attending the conference of South Island Progress Leagues to be held on Wednesday and Thursday. Mr C. E. Inkster, chief security clerk of the Bank of New Zealand, at Christchurch, who has received notice of his transfer to Sydney as an accountant, leaves Christchurch on Thursday to connect with the Maunganui, which sails from Wellington on Friday. Mrs Inkster leaves later. A private cable was received in Christchurch to-day announcing the death of Mr Adolph Hirsch, of New York. The late Mr Hirsch was a mem-

He personally attended some of the sales in New Zealand, and although latterly he had not been in this country his firm was always represented by buyers at the wool sales.
