Points From Letters.

Mr E. J. Howard, M.P., writes:—l used the word “ available ” wrongly in an article in your Saturday’s issue. That word makes it appear as*lf I meant that there were 5000 sguare miles of country in Central Otago available or suitable for irrigation. Of course, I did not mean that. The semi-arid ( -' Otago is an area of about ouou square miles, but it is calculated by experts that only about half a million acres are suitable for irrigation, and much of the country comprising the 5000 miles is mountainous. The foothills will some day carry population, but to-day it is good sheep country. It is a splendid part of New Zealand, offering great possibilities. Our rainfall is between 20in and 30in. Mr A. Holliday.—We distributed a thousand handbills a few ■weeks ago, in aa urgent appeal to the more fortunate to try to place a few of the unemployed in a few hours work. The result was very disappointing, but to the two kind persons who put a smile on two of our men we offer our sincere thanks. I want to beg of those who may be in a position to create” a job around their respective homes no matter how small or how hard, to kindly ring Government Labour Bureau in Hereford Street. Mr Queree in charge knows each man, and his capabilities, and he will make it his business to provide y'ou with the man for the job.
