LARGE CROWDS ATTEND FIRMS’ ANNUAL PICNICS.

ISLINGTON FREEZING WORKS. A large number of Hornby and Islington people, children and adults, attended the picnic organised by the employees of the Islington Freezing Works and held at Glentunnel on Saturday. The weather was fine and over four hundred made the trip. The picnic was held on the Domain, and the committee are deserving of credit for the way in which they catered for their patrons. At the conclusion of the various games and contests Mr V. Parker presented the prizes to the winners. The following events were decided:— 100yds works handicap C. Smith 1, A. Kiney 2, J. Tug-of-war—Freezers’ team 1. Married ladies’ race—Mrs Moty 1, Mrs Stuart 2, Mrs Bradbroolc 3. Bandsmen s race—Clark 1, Cross 2. Married men s race—L. Davis 1, J. Hampton 2, A. Scott 3. Kempthorne 3. Men visitors’ race—Lilley 1, L. Cook 2, L. Willis 3. GARSIDE, PENFOLD AND CO. The firm of Garside, Penfold and Co. Tuam Street, held a picnic at Waikuku Beach on Saturday. About sixty people made the journey in motor-cars. The weather was perfect and an enjoyable day was spent. A tribute was - paid to the generosity of the principal of the firm, Mr R. B. Forsyth, who made provision for the enjoyment of all. Ice cream, drinks, fruit and sweets were provided, in addition to catering, and each child received a present. A buneating competition created a good deal of amusement.
