THOUSANDS TAKE PART IN EXCURSION TRIPS.

The fine weather yesterday induced many people out of doors, and the various excursion trains were well patronised. The two Timaru excursion trains took 1200 people from Christchurch, and this number was augmented by persons who joined at intermediate stations. About 800 passengers came to Christchurch from Timaru by special train. The tramways excursion drew a crowd of 300 to Te Kinga, on the West Coast line. The bookings to Lyttelton were exceptionally heavy, 1700 people going through from Christchurch. To facilitate the return of the passengers, who spent as long as possible at the seaside, a special train was run back to Christchurch in the late afternoon.
