THE ESTUARY PORT.

To the Editor. Dear Sir, —I am sorry for “Wider Outlook,” whose letter appeared in the “Star” of last Thursday, but the community can hardly-hope to find itself 100 per cent sound in its view's. There are probably a few more like “Wider Outlook” whose vision is that of the mole. They cannot understand the importance of direct w r ater communication or visualise south-east Christchurch as it will appear ten to twenty years after the inauguration of direct water carriage to the present city boundary. They can give vent to unworthy insinuations regarding the motives of canal advocates, but one feels assured that the intelligent public has the measure of these gentry and will go quietly forward in its endeavours to advance the true economical interests of the district.—l am, etc., C.A.M.
